A Discussion Document by the West Somerset Flood Group (2014)
In 2014, West Somerset Flood Group published a discussion document on the challenges presented by flooding in West Somerset. It was a snapshot, based on information from Town and Parish Councils, of the particular way that West Somerset floods. It provided information on communities at risk, outlined what flood work was already being done, and summarised key issues, needs and ideas for action.
Many of the individual proposals in the document have now been acted on by the Risk Management Authorities. In particular, a catchment-based approach has been fostered nationally which has allowed more Natural Flood Management measures and partnership projects to begin in the area. All this requires ongoing action.
If you want a brief overview of how we flood from rivers and surface-water in West Somerset, this is still it. The threat from sea-level rise is now greater than was presented in the document.
